God's Will
and My Faith
John 14:13 - 14
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of
the Son brings glory to the Father. Yes, ask anything in my name, and I
will do it!
Misunderstanding this
one verse has compelled a great number of Christians to envision their
Creator and Savior as some sort of Christian genie. What does Jesus mean
when He says, “…in My name”? Simple, “in My name” is equivalent to God’s
Will. God’s Will is a lot of things, but it is not “anything” that we
want.
What we want versus
what we need versus what we believe are often confused in Christian life.
What we want is almost never what we actually need and our beliefs really
have nothing to do with either. Faith is not a baseless and greedy belief
that what we want will be what God thinks that we need.
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is
the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
The writer of Hebrews
goes on to clarify “the substance” of faith in terms of everything that
God has done from creation to Christ Jesus. The hope that he speaks of is
based on the promises of God and the evidence of things unseen is the
immutable necessity of God. It takes a great deal of thoughtfulness and
consideration to come to these sorts of conclusions; therefore, “faith” is
entirely rational and anything but mere belief.
“When will I get what
I want from God?”
Good question … I’m
glad that you asked.
The answer is, “when
His Will and His timing ensure that His glory will be revealed in your
life.”
God’s Will +
God’s Timing = God’s Glory
