A Mission ...
A Purpose
Mark 16: 15 - 18
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all
creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does
not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who
believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new
tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink
deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands
on sick people, and they will get well."
OUR PURPOSE DRIVEN AGENDA
-
Our
purpose is not to feed and clothe the hungry.
-
Our
purpose is not to teach and train the uneducated.
-
Our
purpose is not to build and repair a person’s shelter.
-
Our
purpose is not to treat and heal the sick.
These
things are all worthy in and of themselves but not the things the earliest
missionaries did. Their only focus was, and ours should be, to proclaim
the Gospel.
It's a
worthy thing to feed a hungry stomach, but if that's all we do, we've done
no more than allow one to slip into hell with a full stomach.
It's a
worthy thing to heal a sick body, but if that's all we do, we've only
helped that person have a well body with which to enter hell.
It's a
worthy thing to teach the ignorant, but if that’s all we do, we only help
that one to enter hell more knowledgeable.
It's a
worthy thing to build or repair a man's home, but if that's all we do
we've only made him a little more comfortable for awhile in this world so
he can experience the discomfort of hell forever.
In no
way should we make light of those who minister to the physical and mental
needs of others. We should commend them. There are many who do these
things for others.
However, our purpose and calling is different. Everyone enters this world
physically alive. Their vital signs will verify this. Everyone enters
mentally alive, however impaired. That's scientifically provable as well.
But it
is important to understand that all those who enter this life, enter it
spiritually dead (Eph. 2:1-3). It is therefore our purpose to go to them
whose greatest need is that dead portion of their being might, by the
proclamation of the gospel and the quickening of the Holy Spirit, be made
whole.
If we
must be driven by a purpose, then let it be the most noble that anyone has
ever had.
"How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings of good
news.”
