People of the
Sanctuary
Psalm 15,
“Who may worship
in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? 2
Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth
from sincere hearts. 3 Those who refuse to slander others or harm their
neighbors or speak evil of their friends. 4 Those who despise persistent
sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD and keep their
promises even when it hurts. 5 Those who do not charge interest on the
money they lend, and who refuse to accept bribes to testify against the
innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.”
Have you ever wondered
what the people sitting next to you in church are really like? Have you
ever been called “one of THOSE Christians”? Have you ever wondered how
you can be on fire for the Lord? Believe it or not, all the answers to
these questions deals with the life that we, or others, lead.
We know that we are
saved by grace through faith, yet it’s important to see that Jesus states
that our lives will reflect that relationship. In Matthew Chapter 7, we
see Him pronounce Judgment on those crying out, “Lord Lord! Did we not do
many miracles in your name, cast out demons, etc.” The answer that Jesus
gives is shocking. “I never knew you. Depart from me workers of
inequity”
James tells us that
“Faith without works is dead”, not telling us that we earn our salvation
with works, but that the faith you see in Ephesians 2:8-9 must be a living
Faith that is granted by the Father. A living faith will have deeds
done, relationships radically altered, and lives lived with the goal of
being more like Jesus.
What seems impossible
to us, is only possible through the Holy Spirit. Don’t you love the fact
that Jesus told us that the Holy Spirit would be our guide, our teacher,
our “Paraklete” or helper. So when you see someone on fire for Jesus, or
if you desire to be a Christian that other people notice and can’t help
wonder what in the world is wrong with you, then fear the Lord and walk in
His ways. Good works don’t save you…but they do show who you really
are. As Jesus said to His disciples, "Therefore everyone who hears
these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who
built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the
winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it
had its foundation on the rock.”
Those are the people
able to stand in the House of God and worship Him!
