Joy
Relationships
Philemon 1:4-7
"I thank my God
always, making mention of you in my prayers, because I hear of your love
and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the
saints; … For I have come to have much joy and comfort in your love,
because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you."
I
wonder if we think about the words we say when we greet other Christians.
“Hello Brother…Hello Sister”. The words themselves sound very Holy, but
what really matters is the relationship behind them. We can smile at
someone through our teeth while calling them brother and then turn around
and stab them in the back because of anger or a heart of vengeance for
past wrongs they have done.
Building relationships as you see in this passage from Paul’s letter to
Philemon is a very important part of our Christian walk. I love to tell
people at Church that they need to get used to fellowshipping because
they’ll be doing it for eternity in Heaven! Would you like a taste of
that here on Earth? Build your relationships on love and faith. Let
others say about you, “He/She brings joy and comfort to me…”
I have
a friend who is a Pastor that I enjoy having breakfast now and then with.
I truly can say that Randy brings joy and comfort in his love for me.
Why? Because of his faith and love towards me and to the brethren. I’ll
get an email or call from him and it will bring a smile to my face. I
hope that I am that way for him and others in my life. Rather than
having people running away as I approach, I’d rather see a smile and joy
in their eyes because of our relationship.
It’s
not too late to work on those relationships. Faith is given by God and
shown to Him by our actions. Love is the giving love that we should have
for others. Those two factors can begin to build those Joy Relationships.
