The Good Plan of God

Psalm 25:8 - 10

Good and upright is the LORD; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.  The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.  All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,  To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

One of the biggest questions asked of Pastors and leaders is, “What is God’s will for my life?”   It might come in different versions, but the premise is always the same; What does God desire for my life?   There is a large movement out dealing with the “purpose” of our lives, and quite frankly I laughed when I first heard about it.   God’s purpose in our lives is to be exalted as we live our lives in Him.   God does not play some cosmic game, regardless of how it feels sometimes.  He is not up in heaven thinking of interesting ways to confound and irritate us.  No, God is GOOD and upright as the psalmist says.  Because God is this way, He teaches all of us the way.   Notice it says “sinners”.  That’s you, me, and all other Christians as well.  By humbling ourselves and recognizing the state we are in because of our sin makes us able to be taught, guided by the Lord.

Does that mean that His ways will filled with sunshine and not a care in the world?  Absolutely not.  Jesus says in John 16, In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.  This dovetails into what we see in Psalm 25.  All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth.   In everything you go through, you can be sure that the LORD has shown mercy to you and that He has spoken the truth.

Notice the caveat there at the end? To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies is the key in this passage.  For a normal everyday individual who doesn’t know Christ, things that happen in their lives does not make sense.  The mercy and truth are not able to be seen.   Thus it’s important as Christians to point them in the direction of Christ, so that He can lead them on to the pathways of truth, mercy, grace…..

Think about it…
